SILICON VIDEO® 1281
SILICON VIDEO® 1281 CMOS Cameras with PIXCI® D2X1 PCI Interface
*Lens optional. |

SILICON VIDEO 1281 CMOS camera systems offer the advantages of high resolution progressive scan image capture, low noise digital signalling, small size, convenient software control, the availability of extensive processing, measurement, and analysis capabilities, and low cost. The 1281M is an 8-bit monochrome camera. The 1281C is an 8-bit Bayer pattern color camera. XCAP software provides control of all camera operations.
SENSORS BY SYMAGERY - SILICON VIDEO 1281 cameras are based on VCA1281 CMOS sensors from Symagery Microsystems. These progressive scan sensors offer continuous and single frame rolling shutter modes, windowing, anti-blooming, and an active programmable array resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels.
PIXEL CLOCK AND FRAME RATE - The SILICON VIDEO 1281 cameras have a variable frequency pixel clock that generates user-selectable frequencies from 1 MHz to 43 MHz. An increase in the pixel clock frequency provides a higher frame rate. For example, capture a 1280 x 1024 image at 1 fps using a 1 MHz pixel clock - or capture the same resolution at 30 fps using a 43 MHz pixel clock. With a resolution of 64 x 64, capture 105 fps at 1 MHz, or 4534 fps at 43 MHz.
SINGLE CABLE - One cable connects the SILICON VIDEO 1281 camera head to the PIXCI D2X1 board. The PIXCI D2X1 provides power to the camera, sends and receives camera control signals, generates the programmable pixel clock, and receives video data. A separate power supply and power cable are not required.
CAPTURE & ADJUST DIALOG - The XCAP Imaging Application provides a Capture & Adjust Dialog for selecting pixel clock frequency, integration/exposure time, capture resolution, gain, offset, trigger control, and more. The color camera dialog provides automatic white balance as well as manual adjustment of Red, Green, and Blue gain.
SILICON VIDEO 1281 camera systems include the following items:
- SILICON VIDEO 1281 Camera Head (B&W or color)
- Infrared Cut Filter (color camera)
- Interface Cable (various lengths)
- PIXCI D2X1 PCI Image Capture Board
- XCAP-Lite Imaging Program
To complete the system add a 2/3" C-Mount lens, optional XCAP-Ltd or XCAP-Std program, and computer - all available from EPIX, Inc., or an authorized distributor of EPIX® imaging products.

The XCAP Imaging Program simplifies camera operation with a dedicated Capture & Adjust Dialog that provides one convenient location for controls such as exposure, resolution, triggering, color balance and frame rate. In addition, the SV1281 Dialog provides a camera-to-computer communication indicator, a programmable pixel clock, and exposure times synchronized to AC power.
Camera-to-computer communication is confirmed by a communication graphic. The presence or absence of the 2 lines between the camera and computer icons indicate whether or not the computer and camera are connected and capable of communicating.
The camera's pixel clock frequency is user-selectable over a range of 1 MHz to 43 MHz. The programmable pixel clock generates a wide range of frame rates and exposure times.
The intensity of AC lighting fluctuates with the phase of the AC power. Capturing sequences of images using arbitrary frame rates with AC lighting will result in images with differing brightness. The SV1281 Capture & Adjust Dialog offers a convenient solution - exposure times can be limited to multiples of the local AC power frequency, either 1/50 th or 1/60 th second. Synchronizing exposure times to the AC power provides images with consistent illumination from a 50 or 60 Hz AC light source.

Color Camera and the Infrared (IR) Cut Filter: IR cut filter included with each SV1281C color camera. The IR cut filter improves color fidelity and slightly reduces camera sensitivity (average 89.22% transmission between 405 nm and 625 nm). For maximum sensitivity, the SV1281-OPT-MNTNOF ($25.00) provides use of the color camera without an IR cut filter.
D2X1-SV1281C-1M | $1395.00 | SV1281C CMOS color camera head with IR cut filter, PIXCI D2X1 imaging board, 1-meter cable, XCAP-Lite Imaging Program. |
Monochrome Camera Without IR Cut Filter: An infrared cut filter is not included with an SV1281M monochrome camera in order to maximize the camera’s sensitivity. To reduce the camera’s IR / Near IR sensitivity, the SV1281-OPT-IRF ($50.00) provides an IR cut filter.
D2X1-SV1281M-1M | $1345.00 | SV1281M CMOS monochrome camera head without IR cut filter, PIXCI D2X1 imaging board, 1-meter cable, XCAP-Lite Imaging Program. |
Trigger IN - Strobe OUT: SV1281 cameras feature Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) trigger input and strobe output. LVDS provides superior noise rejection virtually eliminating false triggers. Purchase the TTL-MODULE to convert between TTL and LVDS if a TTL trigger input signal or TTL strobe output signal is required.
TTL-MODULE | $130.00 | Allows TTL level trigger input signal and produces TTL level strobe output signal. |
Cables: 1M, 6FT, 2M, 3M, 4M, 5M (and custom).
